Online Dyscalculia Tutoring

I know how hard some young people find maths and how difficult it can be to help them at home. Over my 26 years of teaching and tutoring I have developed a real passion for making maths easier to understand.

A child with dyscalculia, or severe maths learning difficulties, struggles to make sense of number in a similar way that we would if we were asked to read a language that we didn’t know. My role is to introduce students to this ‘number language’ and help develop their ability to recognise what numbers represent and what we can do with them.

 

Using virtual equipment that we interact with online, I am able to help my pupils visualise numbers and quantities. Over time this ability to picture maths can be applied to their classroom learning. Through the use of games and fun activities, I build fluency in the counting skills and addition and subtraction facts that form the basis of all the maths they will learn.

 

As an experienced Special Needs teacher and tutor, I can identify students’ problem areas and work with them in positive, constructive ways to achieve success. I design my lessons according to my students’ needs, with an emphasis on confidence-boosting activities.
